All-Russian Patients Society “Osteorus”: Take Care of Your Health – Don't Neglect Osteoporosis Prevention

The All-Russian Patients Society “Osteorus” marks World Osteoporosis Day annually on October 20 and conducts educational events to raise public awareness of this serious bone disease.

On October 4, 2025, “Osteorus” and the Russian Association on Osteoporosis started a campaign in Yaroslavl under the slogan "Stop the Neglect of   Bone Health – It's Unacceptable!" The campaign's title is the 2025 motto, initiated by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF).

This “Osteorus” event in Yaroslavl was supported by the regional public organization "Nordic-Yar," which promotes Nordic walking, the "Breakfast with Meaning " public club, and the "Women's Union of the Yaroslavl Region."

Patient Society volunteers Victoria Sotskova, a journalist, and Galina Evstifeeva, a public figure, spoke about World Osteoporosis Day, about the mission and the role which International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), “Osteorus” and RAOP (members of IOF) play in raising awareness of the population about this “silent” disease and ways to prevent it. They informed those who came to this event about the annual Children's drawing competition which takes plays all over Russia every year, showed a model of the “Osteorus” 2026 calendar and shared their plans.

Khatia Gorjeladze, a member of the Russian Association on Osteoporosis (RAOP) and head of the Department of Planned Consultative Care with the Osteoporosis Treatment and Diagnostic Center at the N.V. Solovyov Clinical Emergency Hospital, informed participants about the need for prevention and timely diagnosis of the disease, explained the referral process, and answered their questions.

The organizers ensured that participants had equipment for the Nordic walking workshop, led by Elena Leonchuk, head of” Nordic-Yar”.  She got the people   involved in warm-up exercises and answered questions about the walking technique. The group walked around the park's perimeter a couple of times.

The event was held in Yaroslavl’s Millennium Park for the second time this year.

An exhibition of brochures and leaflets on osteoporosis prevention with recommendations (exercises, nutrition, etc.) was set up for participants to take home and share with their families.

Following the event, Tatyana Malysheva, organizer of the "Meaningful Breakfast" club in Yaroslavl, prepared a short video for social media, aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle and a caring attitude to health.

The good deeds of active individuals from various spheres of life support the cause of osteoporosis prevention, promoting a culture of bone-healthy eating and a healthy, physically active lifestyle.

The event in Yaroslavl   is one of the first in a series of events across the country in the framework of World Osteoporosis Day announced by IOF.

We express our sincere gratitude to the IOF team for providing “Osteorus” and RAOP with several wonderful ideas and resources how to spread the word about osteoporosis and ways to keep bones healthy!!!
