BUILDING UP STRONG BONES AT THE LESSONS

To mark World Osteoporosis Day  the pupils of Grades 8 and 9, School # 4 in Yaroslavl spoke about healthy bones at their English lessons, which has already become a good  tradition. As it turned out all the teenagers know a lot about the important steps to build strong bones and a healthy body. It was fun to study the new posters designed by IOF dedicated to healthy way of life, to a meal plan to prevent osteoporosis. Most of the pupils came to the conclusion that their meals are quite healthy but they can still improve their families’ diet. One of the stages of the lesson was aimed at matching different types of physical exercises and their influence on building bone and muscle strength, improving balance and keeping good posture. However, the highlight of the lesson was watching and discussing the videos about Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, and her involvement in   IOF’s #sLiftOffForBoneHealth social media campaign.

The pupils were very much impressed by Samantha’s enthusiasm to promote the ideas of healthy life style and an opportunity to virtually visit the international space station.

We would like to express our gratitude to the International Osteoporosis Foundation for developing lots of educational materials we use at our lessons.
