World Osteoporosis Day | Demonstration in Belo Horizonte
On Monday (20), SOGIMIG joined the FLS of the Rede Mater Dei de Saúde, and the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Minas Gerais in the first demonstration to raise awareness about osteoporosis, a disease that affects around 15 million Brazilians.
The event took place on Alameda Ezequiel Dias, with the participation of medical students who distributed educational materials and biscuits made from manioc starch—a symbol of bone fragility—with the message “avoid cracking bones”, as well as banners with impactful messages such as “Stop osteoporosis and speed up prevention.”
The students also used the FRAX tool on patients and healthcare professionals to raise awareness during the event.
At night, a 3h “pocket” course on osteoporosis was held for 26 doctors.
