On the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day , which is celebrated on October 20 , Auxologico Villa Caramora is promoting an awareness initiative open to the public with the aim of spreading the culture of prevention, early diagnosis and correct management of osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis is a silent, progressive disease that causes skeletal weakness, increasing the risk of fractures even after minimal trauma . It primarily affects postmenopausal women and men, and can develop at a young age, especially in the presence of risk factors. According to the World Health Organization, osteoporosis affects approximately 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over the age of 50, representing a major cause of frailty and disability in the elderly population.
During the day, Dr. Marisa Fontana , physiatrist at Auxologico Villa Caramora, will be present, who:
- will administer the osteoporosis risk assessment questionnaires ;
- will provide informational material with useful advice on lifestyle, nutrition, physical activity , and other practical tips for maintaining bone health.
