The official launch of the Wessex Women and Girls Research and Innovation Network, a new initiative focused on advancing education and awareness in women’s health, will be marked by a special online event on the occasion of World Osteoporosis Day.
The webinar ‘Osteoporosis In Women’ will be held on October 20th from 15:00-16:00
It will examine the gendered impact of osteoporosis, a condition that disproportionately affects women—1 in 2 women over 50 will experience an osteoporosis-related fracture, with risk rising sharply after menopause. The webinar will:
- highlight local research
- share global insights from the International Osteoporosis Foundation
- inform on practical strategies for prevention and early intervention
- discuss opportunities to reduce fracture risk, improve early detection, and shape policy and practice across Wessex and beyond.
- feature the perspective of a patient representative
Distinguished speakers include:
• Professor Nicholas Harvey, University of Southampton, President of the International Osteoporosis Foundation, and Trustee of the Royal Osteoporosis Society.
• Craig Jones, Chief Executive of the Royal Osteoporosis Society.
