On the Occasion of World Osteoporosis Day (WOD), on October 20, the Calcium Metabolism and Osteoporosis Program (CaMOP) at AUBMC is preparing a series of events over that period in collaboration with nursing, clinical nutrition, physical therapy, and pharmacy departments at AUBMC, to raise awareness on Osteoporosis: The activities will include: Awareness Booth- Monday October 20, 2025 at ACC Building, AND Wednesday October 22 2025 at Building 23-AUBMC (between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm) A booth will be installed at the entrance of the medical center outpatient clinics. The booth will include many educational activities such as: - Knowledge Competitions to engage visitors. - FRAX Questionnaire: Participants will complete the tool to assess their osteoporosis risk, guided by attending physicians, fellows, and nurses. - Educational Materials: Distribution of brochures developed by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and CaMOP, covering osteoporosis, vitamin D, and bone health. - Nutrition & Bone Health: Visitors will learn about calcium content in foods, estimate daily calcium intake using the IOF tool, and receive printed results and calcium reference leaflet. - Exercise & Osteoporosis: The Physical Therapy team will demonstrate safe exercises (stretching, balance, and quadriceps strengthening). An exercise booklet will be shared. - Treatment Options: The Pharmacy team will provide information on available therapies and potential side effects, supported by treatment pamphlets. - Diagnosis: Bone Densitometry Unit technicians will explain BMD testing procedures and instructions, with an educational booklet distributed
